This book, edited by Basabi Chakraborty, is a field-based collection of essays focusing on women who struggle through the hardships of everyday life. It aims to shed light on the difficult realities they face daily.
Almost all the contributors to this volume have received formal education in sociology, with only two exceptions — one being a geographer and the other an expert in psychology. Through their research, the book endeavors to portray the harsh truths of women's lives, highlighting the various roles they take on. The essays included in this volume reflect the experiences of women from diverse backgrounds — such as Adivasi women, nurses, tea plantation workers, women from red-light areas, single women, athletes, elderly women, and even a Baul woman currently imprisoned, among others.
The book comprises a total of eighteen essays, arranged alphabetically by the names of the contributors, rather than by thematic categories. It is hoped that this volume will be well-received by readers.
